Patrick Aloysius Ewing has assisted various teams on the sidelines over the last couple of years – but he will forever remain a New York Knickerbocker. # 33 carried that squad on his back all the way thru the nineties (which was the last time they were any good, coincidentally). As a young and enormously talented college star, Ewing laid the foundation for a tradition of premier big men in Georgetown, where coach John Thompson would build on the legacy with Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutumbo. The “Hoya Destroya” was the anchor and focus of a legendarily scrappy Knicks squad feat. dependable warriors like Charles Oakley, Mark Jackson as well as freakyfknweirdodopedudes like Anthony Mason and John Starks – and let’s not forget Charles Smith, the only man ever to get blocked about a gazillion times on one offensive play. Ewing never won an NBA title – but was part of the original Dream Team in 1992, flossed a mean flat-top fade and was the best sweater (yes, that’s someone who sweats a lot) we’ve ever seen. Helluva dude!

Once upon a time, Shawn Kemp was the meanest and most spectacular player on the planet. His eye-popping ups and ruthless authority put the art of dunking onto a whole new level. He ruled the NBA Top 10 Plays of the Week like a monarchy, also thanks to his partner in crime, Gary Payton, who initiated the alley-oop and fed the big fella on every second Sonics break. And that’s how we will always remember the “Manchild” – as an unbelievable athlete who put the bling into the Golden Era. Helluva dude.
Witness his all-time Top 10 dunks!

You can’t teach heart. Nobody epitomizes K1X’s philosophy like Muggsy Bogues – easily one of the most recognizable personalities in the Golden Era of basketball. Born and raised in Baltimore, he beat the odds and lead a sensational Dunbar High School squad (feat. four future NBA players) to national fame before joining Wake Forest and being nominated to represent Team USA. Muggsy was then drafted by the Bullets, where the shortest player in NBA history formed an odd duo with giant Manute Bol (RIP). Muggs was soon traded to the Charlotte Hornets (forming a legendary trio with sidekicks LJ and Zo) where he became one of the league’s premier PGs and most respected players ever. A pest on defense, a spark on offense. Helluva dude.
And oh yeah: size matters!

Dennis the Menace was a uniqiue physical specimen with a very unique approch to the game. Rebound, rebound, rebound, get in the opponents head, take shoes off, rebound, date celebrities, rebound, wear tight shorts, give weird interviews, break into the Bulls gym, rebound, win championships, and most notably, rebound. Helluva dude.

This epic reality-movie is one of the most successful documentary films ever and was even nominated for an Oscar in 1995. It’s that good. Hoop Dreams follows Chicago high-school basketball stars Arthur Agee and William Gates over the course of several seasons and gives you the ups and downs of high-school hoops as well as the inner-city struggle raw und uncut (we mean that quite literally – the movie has its legnths at 172 mins). If you have not seen it – do your homework!

Here’s the trailer:

Corey “Homicide” Williams is one of our very favorite ballplayers ever. Dude has stamina for days and will tell you about it too. For days! Also known as “187″, “Most Dangerous” or “BX Finest”, Corey earned every one of his many nicknames on the battle-prone courts of New York, by making a list of Gotham’s best ballplayers – and then taking them down one by one. Homi has left his mark in professional leagues all over the world, incl. the USA, France, Puerto Rico, Croatia, Germany, Lebanon, New Zealand, Venezuela and Australia, where he won the MVP award in 2010.
Happy Birthday, fam!

One of our favorites, because there’s so much quality at work here. Written and directed by Spike Lee (obviously a hoops addict), soundtrack by Public Enemy (among others), starring NBA sharp-shooter Ray Allen as Jesus Shuttlesworth and the always uncompromising Denzel Washington. As well as cameos by ballers like Travis Best, Shaq, Killer Miller, Pip, MJ, Bill Walton, Sir Charles and best of all, Rick Fox. Still, in our opinion it’s the movie’s opening scene feat. no-name hoopsters that scores the most points, check it out!
Nah, wait scratch that – nothing and nobody beats Rosario Dawson!

Stay tuned – as we proceed to give you what you need…

This reversible mesh jersey reps K1X alongside the very best in the business (of basketball). These tops are moving quicker than Pip on the break, so you may wanna act quickly. The reversed side comes at you in flame orange and features the “Nation of Hoop” in handwriting.
Get yours at KICKZ.com, Snipes and other fine basketball retailers.

This one is tricky, because the movie has (almost) become iconic with time. How can you hate on a walkman-wearing, air-guitar-playing wolf, who would later go on to be diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Michael J. Fox’ on-court stunt-double has game but should have been included in the editing too. Watch our favorite wtf-moment in this short clip of MJ’s coming-out – and witness a two-handed layup that miraculously ends up a reverse slam dunk (02:10). Still, “Teen Wolf” must be considered a classic. And those never go out of style.
We’ve never seen it, but there’s a Teen Wolf TV Series currently running on MTV (whatever happened to videos?). Let us know what you think if you have…

This one is pretty easy to sum up. Great movie – dope cinematography – corny basketball. Edward Norton is a great actor but his game looks awkward, like he took some last minute lessons to prep for this role. “Derek Vinyard’s” game winning dunk at Venice Beach is about as realistic as a skinhead ballplayer. And what type of a K-Mart ball are they playing with anyway? Check the rock spike off the concrete like a rocket in this clip:

A lot of hoops in this one. The most memorable scene is surely the final game of the St. Vitus Cardinals in which a young (and super skinny) Leo Di Caprio and his sidekick Marky Mark take the court high as kites. The results are airball-free-throws, ridiculous turnovers and non-stop vertigo. If you haven’t seen it (and are in the mood for a hardcore drug-abuse story), “Basketball Diaries” is definitely worth checking out for some old-school basketball, teenager pranks and a pretty good soundtrack.

Maybe the funniest basketball movie scene ever. Ben Stiller’s overconfident buddy (Seymour Hoffmann) clanks every throw hard off the backboard and continues to feel like the man. Everyone of us knows at least one of those dudes. Or how Stiller has to guard the sweaty hairy fat guy with goggles and gets his mouth rubbed in a heavy dose of sasquatch-manliness. Must see:

The inaugural “K1X Park Authority” tournament was held two weeks ago at our notorious home-court, dubbed “Pina” in Munich’s (Germany) museum district. Ten teams made up of local ballers, heads and influencers took it to each other under the blazing sun. BobMoses All-Stars, Kickz.com, Nike, Distorted People, Goodbois, Massman Park, K1X, Anderer Crew, H.E.A.R.T. & Pinack Attack Locals battled it out in 27 hard-fought matches until only one team was left standing: The PA Locals won the final game over Team K1X and successfully claimed their rightful status as “Park Authority”. That is until next year, when they will defend their title and bragging-rights in the second edition of K1X’s 3-on-3 Park Authority B-ball Tournament.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this one helluva day. See you next year, fellas!

These guys can’t play a lick. But you gotta respect the fact that Jack Nicholson and co. kept it real by not even pretending to have any sort of game. That in itself makes this b-ball scene genuinely good. Nothing worse than a fake alley-oop by a midget movie star.
MVP: “Chief”
