ODB is one of those unique cats who will live on forever. Just like our love for hoops in the nineties, which is one of many reasons to look back at this raw verse (Proteck Ya Neck II in the Zoo from the legendary album Return to the 36 Chambers – The Dirty Version):
Jerked my dick, but still got more hoes than a pimp
And score more points than Shawn Kemp
Keepin powerfully strong like the center on the Knicks
Hut one, hut two, hut three, hut!!
Ol Dirty Bastard live and uncut

Berlin based singer/songwriter and homeboy Fetsum, who is featured in our current “Heads” catalogue recently got some serious shine in the wonderful Arise magazine. Chiddy Bang are making moves with their new hit single “The Opposite of Adults“ these days. On their Mixtape “The Swelly Express“, CB floss their know-how and hoop love in “Fresh like us” by dropping the following lines:
And they say I’m so proud but I’m like “I know.”
I do this thing nobly like Manu!
[...]
I can take her and you too like Bono.
They say “You got a point like Rajon Rondo.”

“Je donne jamais du moue, la vie c’est gentillesse, je tend jamais la joue c’est ma devise pour progresser.”
“Let me clear my throat” – y’all remember that tune from ’96, don’t you?! The song is an instantly recognizable floor-filler and the track remains popular to this day. Last Thursday we caught legendary DJ Kool in a hotel lobby on his way to tear down Club Baby in Munich City.

Basketball is Hip Hop. And Hip Hop is Basketball. This new blog segment (borrowed from Greg Tanner’s feature of the same title in UK’s Fade Away magazine) sheds light on some of hip hop’s most interesting basketball-related lyrics. Come back next week for a fresh dose! Today: “Empire State of Mind” (Jay-Z)
If Jeezy’s payin’ LeBron,
I’m payin’ Dwyane Wade!

Guru, one of hip hop’s all-time greatest artists, passed away after a long battle with cancer yesterday. We had the privilege and pleasure to meet- and work with Keith Elam on several occasions and are shocked and saddened by the news. The arguably most recognizable voice in the game has gone still. We’ll miss you dearly. Your flow will live on forever.
Please log on to Ballerstatus.com for details as well as Guru’s last letter to his fans.

Thanks for the memories, Guru!
Rasco aka. Dick Swanson just dropped “Like This”, the first single from his latest (and best!) solo effort “Global Threat”. The album is in stores since late February – and as a fan of real rap, you should make sure to cop a copy.

… but will definitely bang your ear-drums and sound systems. Last Wednesday, Munich City witnessed a true wizard on the 1s and 2s: DJ Revolution from Long Beach, California.

Dutch DJ/Producer Bamba Nazar, who is also featured in our all new spring look book and is currently working on a collabo with Redman, just sent us these recent images.
Bamba is wearing our At Large Army Parka and the famous Choppin Down Nets Hoody.

We recently shot some portraits with a bunch of friends. And then asked them to give us a heartfelt quote about their personal relationship to the sport, culture, emotion and hype that is basketball …
The result is an intimate and eclectic collection of portraits (feat. ballplayers, MC’s, dancers, DJ’s, entertainers …) and inspiring views, which were assembled to illustrate our latest spring/summer 2010 collection, “Heads”. Thanks to the fam!

Our boy Olli Banjo recently teamed up with the “King of Rap”, Kool Savas, and fellow top notch German MC’s Azad and Moe Mitchell to record some tracks for the highly anticipated album “John Bello Story 3″. “Immer wenn ich rhyme” is the first single/video release, which is already on the verge of one million youtube clicks after just several days. And that’s no wonder: Great track. Dope video. And a nice K1X cameo in Olli’s verse …
Kool Bob Love was in Berlin last weekend to add some extra spice to Hip Hop Don’t Stop’s wonderful 3rd anniversary. And to rep the Nation of Hoop it seems. It was a helluva party …

… literally! talib kweli paid k1x’s home country a visit and showed mad love for the locals by reppin’ k1x on stage. especially considering the roof raising heat at the fully packed venue. nothing underlines a killer performance like a boatload of sweat – and the following remains a commandment chiseled in stone: a talib show is a must for every fan of music, not just hip hop.
