After a short preview on the official USA release of the K1X DCAC Patrick Mohr Edition earlier here’s a closer look at the very special Concept Shop FourTwoFour on Fairfax which will launch the limited sneaker tomorrow night in Los Angeles with special guest Patrick Mohr himself.
The founders of FourTwoFour on Fairfax Concept Shop came together in the spirit of collaborative creativity to have a place that features cutting edge ideas in design – be it fashion, lifestyle, and art – without limitations. FourTwoFour evokes a feeling of the turn of the century meets the future, a salon inspired by cities like Paris and New York, crash landing in Los Angeles. Above all the shop has become famous for their very own sneaker crowns.
Sneaker Crowns™ is a hand crafted shoe accessory which can be worn on sneakers (or even dress shoes). The quality is without question. This includes everything from the hand drawn sketches to hand carved waxes. From the solid bronze and silver castings which are completed with the finest finishes available to the aircraft technology that was employed to ensure the piece stays on the shoe under any circumstances. A jewelry line 100% produced in the U.S.A.
And so the circle is complete since a distinct characteristic of the DCAC “Patrick Mohr edition” is the wooden triangle which is located on the shoe’s tongue and also doubles as an accessory that can be worn as an amulet while the individuality of the shoe is completed by an innovative leather strap which is attached to the upper part of the heel. It can be fixed to the ankle or lower leg or be worn as a wrist-accessory.
To a great release event!

K1X has worked on some brow raising projects lately. The 4-E basketball design project (feat. Marok, Frank 151 Feat. Stay High 149, Bill McMullen & Mode2), the footwear design co-op with vanguard German fashion designer Patrick Mohr or our cinematic tribute to NYC basketball featuring Pete Rock and Red Cafe for example. We will continue to team up with interesting brands, artists and influencers in order to keep y’all on your toes. And to hone that special edge we have become known for. Actually, the demand for exclusive content and limited products was the driving force behind our newest brand category, “K1Xclusive”.
“K1Xclusive” = strictly exclusive products for strictly exclusive accounts. K1X was a trail blazing player in turning basketball into lifestyle, now K1Xclusive looks to propel basketball lifestyle into the high end streetwear sector. Providing only the finest in K1X footwear, apparel and accessories, the K1Xclusive line was specially designed for handpicked streetwear boutiques: dope product, limited editions and top level distribution. Last week we launched the much anticipated DCAC remix by Patrick Mohr at Berlin’s CLVII boutique, with a little get together for selected heads. The event also featured the inaugural presentation of two unique customized pairs of the shoe: One version was pimped in typical manner by CLVII with Swarowski stones, while the other was enhanced by Patrick Mohr himself, using differently shaped wooden elements tieing back to his trademark and the special features (such as the wooden triangle) of the K1X DCAC Patrick Mohr Edition. To get a better look, visit the CLVII store in Meinekestr. 5 (10719 Berlin) or peep the images after the jump.
Friends, media and local hipsters gathered on location to celebrate the international launch of the exclusive silhouette (limited to 150 pairs worldwide!) backed by the tunes of DJ Alexkid. Thanks to Absolut Vodka, Becks, Aloha and our friends from K1X Energy for the drinks!
For those who missed out, check the recap video & pics after the jump and watch out for the 2nd Edition of the K1X DCAC Patrick Mohr Edition available in nubuck leather and 3 new colorways dropping summer 2011 at selected retailers. Yes, it’s about that time. Rain, sleet and snow have made way for the sun, long evenings and fresh sneakers. Early may, when Europe’s hardwood champions have been crowned and the NBA playoffs shift into full gear, marks the inofficial start of the real basketball season: the streetball season! That’s when reputations are made, nicknames are born and every ballplayer naturally gravitates towards that “thump”, “thump” sound of his or her home court. Playground basketball is where it all started. Playground basketball is where talent is honed and friendships are made. It’s where neighborhoods gather and where skills and sweat are a currency. That’s especially true for the mecca of basketball, New York City. Nowhere else do streetball tournaments, players and games attract a quasi-religious following. Dollars, pride and bragging rights are on the line. Believe the hype!
The idea for a visual love letter to NY basketball was born when Red Cafe’s unreleased track “Heart & Soul” established itself as an instant office-favorite at K1X headquarters in Munich (Germany) last spring. Niels Jager (K1X Go-To Guy): “The tune was on replay 24/7. And one day it hit us: let’s build a statue for NYC streetball!” Red Cafe’s ode to the city that never sleeps is a Pete Rock production that boasts all the makings of a hip hop classic. K1X, who has been active in the outfitting of several high profile NYC streetball tournaments for several years, was all the more surprised to find out that this beast of a tune was not yet a prime focus of Red Cafe’s record label. Shake Down quickly agreed to let K1X shoot a poetic clip for the song, whose lyrics are a glowing personification of K1X’s appreciation for street basketball: The Heart & Soul of New York City.
French streetball documentarist Kevin Couliau (Asphalt Chronicles), who spent the summer of 2009 in the five boroughs hunting down supreme blacktop action, was a natural choice to capture the raw essence of NYC and its rich streetball culture. As was the Canon 5D Mark II as Couliau’s weapon of choice. Art director / director / producer Thibaut de Longeville (director of the acclaimed “Just For Kicks” sneaker culture documentary) and motion graphic designer Vincent Dumond of 360 Creative in Paris added their visual expertise to the project and took care of elegant motion graphics and bona fide post production.
The outcome of this work celebrates its world premiere today. The clip features action from K1X affiliated tournaments in Harlem (“Together We Chill” and “Kingdome Classic”) and the Lower East Side (“Lower Manhattan Classic”) as well as a variety of other city courts and an impressive array of cameos by iconic players, opinion leading heads and a bunch of regular dudes. Bobbito Garcia, who got an early preview of the clip last winter had this to say: “It’s so beautiful, man. It’s snowing tonight but it made me look forward to the coming summer months again.”
